J-PEAKS Lecture Featuring Professor Nobuhiko Kobayashi of UC Santa Cruz / June 16, 2026

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) hosted a J-PEAKS lecture featuring Professor Nobuhiko Kobayashi of the University of California, Santa Cruz, on the topic of “Mesoscopic Materials for Energy, Optics, and Electronics.”
Professor Kobayashi began by providing an overview of the University of California, Santa Cruz, and its research environment, and then spoke about his research activities in the United States, focusing on his areas of expertise: thin films, semiconductors, and materials science.
In addition, he shared his journey toward earning a Ph.D. in the United States and his experiences in building an international research career, providing highly insightful content for the approximately 40 students and young researchers in attendance.
Engaging in dialogue with leading international researchers provides an opportunity to experience international research standards firsthand and to position one’s own research within a global context. Through the J-PEAKS project, NUT will continue to create such opportunities for international exchange, foster the development of young researchers, and steadily strengthen the university’s overall research capabilities.
