【Upcoming Event】Symposium "The Science of Japanese Fermentation"/ March 23, 2026

Nagaoka University of Technology is pleased to announce the upcoming symposium, "The Science of Japanese Fermentation."
This symposium is designed as a hands-on program to deepen understanding by traveling back and forth between the local fermentation site and the research center. Through the "science" of our research center and the "site" of Uonuma's satoyama (Hakkai Brewery), you will experience the connection between nature, culture, and science.
Fermentation is not only a technology that has supported Japan's food culture, but also a bio-industrial base originating from Japan that can be deployed in diverse industrial fields such as biotechnology, materials, chemistry, and pharmaceuticals. In this symposium, we will introduce our efforts to reveal the traditional Japanese culture of fermentation through science and develop it as a new industrial value.
In the panel discussion, we will also exchange views on the potential of the fermentation industry as a Japanese-style circular economy and future industrial collaboration and business opportunities from the standpoints of finance, policy, business, and education. We hope this will be an opportunity to consider the potential of a Japanese-style bioeconomy centered on fermentation, both from the field and from the perspective of science.
If you wish to attend, please register by Wednesday, March 18, 2026. We look forward to seeing your participation.
