Advancing Research Infrastructure: Information Exchange and Tour of Remote-Controlled Equipment with Five J-PEAKS Universities/ August 29, 2025
On Friday, August 29, 2025, Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) welcomed technical staff and officials from Okayama University, Chiba University, Osaka Metropolitan University (OMU), and Kyushu Institute of Technology to our campus. The event aimed to strongly promote the advancement of technical support systems and the sharing of research facilities and equipment among J-PEAKS-awarded universities.
Currently, with support from the MEXT "Project for Promoting Public Utilization of Advanced Research Infrastructure", NUT has established the "Gigaku Core Facility Network." In collaboration with 14 institutions nationwide, including KOSEN (College of Technology) and public research institutes, we are promoting the remote utilization and sharing of analytical instruments. Today, a total of 96 instruments, including microscopes and XRD systems at our Analysis and Instrumentation Center, are available for remote use by researchers both domestically and internationally.
During the information exchange session, NUT presented its initiatives for remote equipment use, leading to a lively discussion regarding technical staff organizational structures and human resource development at each university. Participants shared specific case studies on integrating remote technology into education, contracted analysis, and training seminars, with many expressing positive outlooks on future collaborations that transcend institutional boundaries.
Following the discussion, a live demonstration of remote-controlled SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and EPMA (Electron Probe Microanalyzer) was conducted. Technical staff from the visiting universities experienced the operations firsthand, gaining deep insights into operability, security, and management challenges from a practitioner’s perspective.
NUT will continue to leverage the strong network of J-PEAKS universities to strengthen Japan’s research infrastructure. Through a university-wide effort involving both faculty and technical staff, we will accelerate international industry-academia-government collaboration and social transformation.
The Analysis and Instrumentation Center welcomes inquiries for external and remote utilization at any time.
