Unveiling of High-Functionality Mushroom Development: Achievements in Local Biomass Utilization and Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration / Nov.4. 2025
Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) will hold an unveiling ceremony to present the results of the industry-academia-government collaborative project, "Development of High-Functionality Mushrooms Utilizing Local Biomass." The event will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 12:00 to 13:00, at the KIKUSUI-GURA GARDEN Lab of Kikusui Sake Co., Ltd.
Shibata City has been promoting regional revitalization through industry-academia-government collaboration, developing the shared office "KINESSE Tenno" and positioning the "NUT & Noso Lab Shibata" (Noso: Agriculture Creation) as a central hub for R&D and human resource development.
Based on the core mushroom cultivation technology from the laboratory of Professor Masahito Yamauchi at National Institute of Technology (KOSEN), Kagoshima College, a collaborative research project led by Professor Takashi Yamaguchi (Department of Science of Technology Innovation, NUT) has successfully established a cultivation technique for high-functionality mushrooms (such as Hiratake/Oyster mushrooms). This technique utilizes unused regional biomass, such as rice husks and rice bran, as a growth medium. The unveiling event will feature an explanation of the collaboration's history, an introduction to the mushrooms, and a tasting session.
This project aligns directly with Shibata City's regional vision—encompassing resource recycling, organic practices, health, tourism, and disaster prevention. As a prime example of the J-PEAKS industry-academia-government collaboration model, it demonstrates the transformation of unused local resources into new value, attracting significant attention for its future potential.
